Managing Our Boat Energy Needs

BACK TO PROJECTS PAGE
Just like a home, a boat uses energy in some form to operate.  With a home it is your appliances (washer, dryer, dishwasher), your lights, heat, maybe air conditioning etc.  And, at the end of the month, you pay your hydro or gas or oil bill and move on.  With a boat, it is a little different.  Except for those days when we can plug the boat in at a dock, we make and store our own power.  Power is made via solar or the wind or the boat's alternator when the engine is running.  All this power is stored in batteries, ready for use.  And that's the cycle. Every day. Make energy (shine, sun, shine!) + store energy (all hail the battery gods) = Use energy (Lights, refrigerator, pumps, air conditioning).

This page are our projects for making things easier, more efficient or just plain better.
